This thesis comprises a book-length creative work accompanied by a set of essays. Systems theory (the science of complex and self-organising systems) is a secondary focus of the creative work and is used Author: Janet Ruth Jackson.   Edith “Dolly” Jackson was born March 4, , the ninth child of Ansel and Goldie Gisinger. Edith Jackson marks the end of this trilogy by Rosa Guy (as trilogy I suppose it is, in a loose sense of the word). The first time I heard of Rosa Guy was in an interview with Nancy Garden where she mentioned Rosa Guy's book Ruby as being one of the first young adult books with a lesbian theme.

Less than two weeks after reading that interview, I ran into Ruby's prequel-of /5. I read Edith Jackson, along with the first book of this triology (The Friends)when I was in the 5th grade in I had forgotten many of the details and was quite taken aback when I read of the many struggles Edith endures/5(2).

Edith Jackson is less self-aware than her friend Phyllisia Cathy of The Friends (), but no less self-occupied—and just as intense. Having slaved and sacrificed to keep her three orphaned sisters together, and helpless now as they leave, one by one, on their own, Edith feels fiercely resentful toward almost everyone, including the sisters.
